The lyrics of this familiar song were by playwright Ben Johnson, who in 1616 wrote a poem called Song to Celia. The music probably dates back to about 1790. Musically, after a brief introduction, the melody occurs in the 1st violins. The arranger has added some fresh harmonic touches to spice up an already pretty tune. The second time through the song is done in a unique pizzicato style that involves the entire ensemble. That takes the song to a third time through, this time back to a different bowed version. A strong ending closes out this enchanting song. This is a wonderful piece to contrast your other selections, and an audience and performer pleaser!
