In 1988-89 I composed Aubade for Trumpet and Organ. With the formation of True North Brass in 1997, I decided to adapt Aubade into a brass quintet, spreading the melody around the group and making it less of a trumpet solo. Over the years, it has been described as having a "delicately transparent" quality and a mood of "wistful nostalgia", and some have even suggested itis a musicaldepiction of a sunrise on an Ontario lake.
