Amazing Grace, with words written by John Newton and joined with the "New Britain" hymn tune, appeared for the first time in William Walker's shape note tunebook Southern Harmony in 1847. The present arrangement draws on folk and shape note traditions, and was premiered by the arranger (flugelhorn) and Gerry Senechal (organ) at a wedding.
